A new report has shed light on how WWE reportedly views Sami Zayn following the end of his brief Undisputed WWE Championship reign.
Sami Zayn captured the Undisputed WWE Championship at Night of Champions on June 27, defeating Cody Rhodes and Gunther in a Triple Threat Match to win his first world title. However, his reign lasted just nine days before CM Punk defeated him in the main event of Monday Night Raw on July 6.
According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE does not currently view Zayn as one of the company’s top “money players,” despite his popularity with fans.
“In the past, absolutely, there were times where they were passing around [world titles]. They really aren’t passing around belts now, they really are in the hands of the people who, the perception is, are the money players, and Sami is not, in their mind, one of those people. He could have been. There was a time where he was, but even then, in their minds, he still wasn’t. They’re still all brainwashed by the cosmetics in a lot of ways, and that certain people are good hands, but can’t be ‘the guy’. Sami is one of those guys in their minds, that can’t be the guy.”
WWE Fans Disappointed That Sami Zayn Dropped The Title So Soon After Winning It
Following Sami Zayn’s loss to CM Punk, Becky Lynch took to social media to state that the former champion had been “robbed,” echoing the reaction of many fans who were disappointed to see his reign end after little more than a week.
While Zayn is no longer Undisputed WWE Champion, it remains to be seen where he fits into WWE’s main event picture moving forward after briefly reaching the top of the mountain.
