WWE is reportedly preparing a special celebration for the 30th anniversary of The Rock‘s debut, with plans for a commemorative championship belt and exclusive merchandise.
The Rock made his official WWE in-ring debut at Survivor Series on November 17, 1996, at Madison Square Garden in New York City. With the milestone approaching, WWE is reportedly putting together several initiatives to recognise one of the company’s most successful performers. According to WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select, WWE’s promotional team is developing plans to commemorate the anniversary through merchandise and other promotional activities.
“Plans include a commemorative championship belt, special merchandise releases, and social media campaigns honoring the anniversary of his 1996 Survivor Series debut,” Fightful Select reported.
Although the plans have not been officially announced, the reported celebrations would recognise three decades since Johnson first stepped into a WWE ring.
The Rock has since become one of professional wrestling’s most recognisable figures, establishing himself as a major Hollywood actor while maintaining ties to WWE through his position on the TKO Group Holdings board of directors.
The Rock Approaches 30 Years Since WWE Debut
The Rock debuted under the ring name Rocky Maivia, a tribute to his father, Rocky Johnson, and grandfather, Peter Maivia. Introduced as a third-generation wrestler, Johnson initially struggled to connect with audiences, and fans criticised his original character.
However, his career changed dramatically after he reinvented himself as The Rock, developing the personality and presentation that would eventually make him one of WWE’s biggest stars. His transformation helped establish him as a leading figure in professional wrestling and paved the way for his eventual success outside the industry.
The reported anniversary celebrations also come amid speculation about backstage tensions involving Johnson following his recent comments concerning AEW and PAC. Despite rumours of heat surrounding those remarks, WWE reportedly remains interested in honouring his contributions to the company.
The planned commemorative championship belt would be one of the celebration’s most notable elements, alongside special merchandise releases and social media tributes highlighting his career. It remains unclear when WWE intends to officially announce the anniversary initiatives or when the commemorative items could become available.
