A new professional wrestling promotion is preparing to launch in the United Kingdom later this year, and several notable names from across the industry are already attached to the project, including WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle.
The new National Wrestling League (NWL) will feature a unique team-based league format inspired by European football leagues. The promotion will consist of six teams of wrestlers competing throughout the season to earn points and climb the standings.
The league has already attracted several recognisable names, including WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle, former WWE World Champion Jake Hager, Scottish wrestling star Grado, recently released former WWE star Ridge Holland and former Intercontinental Champion D’Lo Brown.
Holland, who has recently been competing under his real name Luke Menzies, confirmed on Instagram that he has joined the Yorkshire Titans team and is preparing to return to action representing his home county.
The announcement marks Menzies’ first confirmed in-ring role since suffering an injury during a TNA Wrestling television taping in September 2025.
New Promotion Featuring Kurt Angle Has Been Featured In Mainstream Media
The Kurt Angle attached concept has already attracted mainstream attention in the United Kingdom, with the BBC’s coverage of the new league highlighting the promotion’s football-inspired structure and its growing list of talent.
According to details announced so far, the first NWL match is scheduled to begin in Newcastle on August 9 at the Vertu Arena, with tickets starting as low as £5 for early-bird seating and rising to £25 for ringside seats.
Additional events are planned for Manchester at the Bowlers Exhibition Centre on September 27, Glasgow on October 10 at the PlaySport Arena, London, the Midlands and Yorkshire as the league begins its debut season.
