An unfortunate wardrobe malfunction became one of the biggest talking points to emerge from AEW Forbidden Door on Sunday night.
Mercedes Mone retained her place among AEW’s top stars at Forbidden Door, but much of the attention following the Women’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament final centred on Maya World, who battled through an unfortunate wardrobe malfunction during the match.
World challenged Mone in the tournament final after earning a surprise Cinderella run as a late replacement in the competition. However, early in the bout, the front of World’s ring gear came loose, forcing her to repeatedly adjust it throughout the match.
Although she was wearing protective gear underneath, the issue clearly affected her movement throughout the contest. Later in the match, her wig also became dislodged, creating another obstacle as she continued to compete.
Despite the setbacks, World refused to let the situation derail her performance and continued to push Mone throughout the highly competitive contest. Mone also appeared to help her opponent on several occasions by subtly protecting her coverage during exchanges, including while applying the Statement Maker submission.
