Questions continue to surround Brock Lesnar’s future with WWE following his apparent retirement at WrestleMania 42, with new reports suggesting the moment may have been part of a larger storyline rather than a legitimate farewell.
According to PWInsider, Brock Lesnar is still internally listed as an active WWE performer despite being placed in the alumni section on WWE.com. The report noted that Lesnar is currently viewed internally as a free agent because he is not assigned to a specific brand.
The situation has raised further speculation among fans, particularly because WWE’s alumni section has traditionally been reserved for names no longer actively associated with the company. Other recognised free agents, including Omos, AJ Lee and Paige, remain listed separately.
Additional details regarding Lesnar’s status were discussed by Dave Meltzer in the April 27 edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Meltzer stated that multiple sources within WWE indicated Lesnar’s WrestleMania retirement angle should not be viewed as genuine.
“Most in the company believed that was not his retirement and nobody would confirm that it was a true retirement,” Meltzer wrote. “We were outright told to treat it as an angle including from the same person who warned us to treat the first Seth Rollins injury as an angle.”
Meltzer also noted that Brock Lesnar’s WWE business is typically handled with significant secrecy, making it difficult for many within the company to know his long-term creative plans.
“Lesnar’s stuff by design is almost always kept secretive,” Meltzer continued. “Lesnar was very convincing and the situation came across so big that it would almost be a letdown for him to retire again. Most had expected his retirement at SummerSlam, since it is in Minneapolis this year.”
Brock Lesnar Is Expected To Retire At SummerSlam In Minneapolis
The report is notable given that this year’s SummerSlam is expected to take place in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Brock Lesnar’s home state. Many had previously speculated that WWE could choose the event as the setting for a legitimate retirement moment should Lesnar eventually decide to step away from the ring.
Lesnar appeared to retire following his loss to Oba Femi at WrestleMania 42 when he left his gloves and boots inside the ring, a visual traditionally associated with retirement in professional wrestling.
