Two people who have presented sworn statements to the court in Conor McGregor’s appeal have be charged with perjury.
After a police investigation, Samantha O’Reilly, 38, and Steven Cummins, 39, have been charged with giving false statements to the court.
O’Reilly and Cummins claimed that the victim, Nikita Hand, had a physical fight with her partner at the same time the incident had taken place at the same hotel. Hand herself told the court the statement was full of “lies” at the time. O’Reilly has been charged with two counts of giving false statements. She is Hand’s neighbour.
Ireland’s Court of Appeal rejected McGregor’s appeal in its entirety.
McGregor was found guilty of sexual assault by a civil court in 2018. She was awarded $281,732 USD in damages, and McGregor was also ordered to pay almost $1.5 million in legal costs.
The prosecution generally in criminal cases must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt but in civil cases the claimant must establish their case on based on probabilities.
