Tony Khan has addressed WWE’s decision to hold an event in Chicago at the same time and in the same city as AEW All Out
AEW All Out is set to take place at its regular home of Hoffman Estates in the suburbs of Chicago on September 26th. The location and date were announced on July 6th, and only 10 days later, WWE announced that it would be holding AAA Worlds Collide at the same time in the nearby Allstate Arena.
During an appearance on the Battleground Podcast, Tony Khan discussed whether he sees this as healthy competition, a compliment, or simply the reality of the wrestling business today.
“It’s probably all of the above. I think it’s all of the above. It’s the reality of current wrestling. It’s the, frankly, predatory nature of scheduling of events, but also the compliment that says that AEW is doing very well
“Chicago’s a great city for wrestling. I’m very excited about AEW All Out, and it’s not something unexpected to have competition, and I do welcome it. And I also really am excited about the run of shows coming up. Tonight, just a stacked Dynamite, a major redemption pay-per-view this weekend, and I think it’s going to put us on the course to All In and then All Out.”
Tony Khan Addresses WWE Holding On Same Day As AEW All In
This isn’t the first time WWE has counterprogrammed a major AEW event. Most recently, the company announced that Lucha Libre AAA and NXT Heatwave would be taking place in Texas on the same day as AEW All In London. The double-header is set to begin at the unusually early time of 11:00 am, likely taking the time difference into account for AEW’s UK show.
The news was announced during Forbidden Door, and at the press conference afterwards, Tony Khan said he took the move as a compliment from WWE, and would focus on putting on the best event he could in London.
