Tony Khan has reacted to WWE announcement that it will hold both NXT and AAA shows on the same day as AEW All In London.
On August 30th, AEW returns to Wembley Stadium for the first time in two years for All In London. With only nine weeks to go until the event, WWE made the surprise announcement it will be holding not one, but two events on the same day as AEW’s biggest show of the year. Lucha Libre AAA and NXT Heatwave will be held back-to-back in the Bert Ogden Arena in Edinburg, Texas.
During the post-Forbidden Door media scrum, Tony Khan was asked for his thoughts on the announcement, which took place while the cross-promotional event was still on the air. Khan agreed that it was a compliment, joking it was “twice the compliment Jimmy Crockett got.”
“It’s good. It’s double the compliment Jimmy Crockett got. That’s good, that’s good, twice as nice as they were to Jimmy. That’s great. I’ll be sure to take it that way. I think we’re going to have a great AEW All In, I’m really looking forward to going back to Wembley Stadium. It’s going to be the biggest night in AEW wrestling.
“As you could see from talking wiht the winners of the Owen Hart Foundation Tournaments, with Mercedes Mone and Will Ospreay, there’s a lot of excitement and a lot of prestige around AEW going back to Wembley Stadium. I think it’s gonna be a great, great night for AEW.
“I can’t speak to what the other promotions are doing but I did see that announcement. I saw that with our own show going on tonight, so not a lot that I can do other than just hope we have a really good show and plan and prepare that we will have a very good show for AEW All In London.”
Tony Khan Reveals Challenges Of Booking Forbidden Door
Ahead of the event, Tony Khan admitted that booking Forbidden Door can be a challenging prospect. The AEW President explained that the logistics of booking international wrestlers and securing visas can be problematic. Khan also spoke of the difficulties of working with other pormoters to utilise stars when his counterparts might have different ideas in mind.
Despite these challenges, though, Tony Khan still finds the week of Forbidden Door one of the most fun on the AEW calendar.
