Tony Khan has confirmed that he intends to grant an AEW star their release after they requested to leave the company.
Speaking during the AEW Redemption media call, the AEW President confirmed reports that Tay Melo had asked for her release, revealing the request came several weeks ago and caught him by surprise.
According to Tony Khan, Melo approached him following a match on AEW Collision and explained that she wanted to step away from professional wrestling. Khan said he plans to honour her request.
Melo’s final AEW match came on the June 6, 2026, edition of Collision in Youngstown, Ohio, where she and Anna Jay unsuccessfully challenged Divine Dominion for the AEW Women’s World Tag Team Championship.

Tony Khan also addressed speculation surrounding Sammy Guevara, confirming there has been no change to the former TNT Champion’s status with AEW. Khan revealed Guevara texted him earlier in the day to clarify that recent changes to his social media profile were not intended to spark rumours, after fans speculated he had removed references to AEW from his biography.
