NJPW’s Tomoaki Honma is hanging up his wrestling boots next year.
During today’s non-televised NJPW event in Yamagata, Japan, Honma made the announcement,
Yamagata is his hometown.
Honma explained to the crowd that heeding the results of recent medical exams he has decided to retire next year in his hometown.
In 2017, Honma was injured when he took a DDT in the ring. Honma injured his cervical vertebrae and was left temporarily paralyzed. After a successful surgery and three and a half months in hospital Honma began training to return to the ring. In June of 2018, he did.
Honma was part of the Great Bash Heel (GBH) faction. When everyone else turned on leader Togi Makabe and created the Chaos faction Honma stood by him and they formed a successful tag team together.
Honma has been wrestling for 29 years. Twenty of those years have been for NJPW.
