Jackie Redmond has opened up about an intimidating backstage interaction she once had with The Undertaker while working on a WWE feature involving Oba Femi.
Speaking with Awful Announcing, Jackie Redmond explained that WWE allows its broadcast team significant creative freedom when putting together countdown-style segments and feature pieces. While discussing an assignment centered on Brock Lesnar and Oba Femi, Redmond noticed The Undertaker backstage and decided to approach him for insight into Femi’s rapid rise.
Despite her years of experience in sports broadcasting, Redmond admitted she felt nervous approaching the legendary WWE figure.
“I’m walking around, I see The Undertaker hanging out backstage, I’ve only met him once,” she said. “And he’s around, but like, you know, he’s The Undertaker. I’m intimidated.”
Redmond explained that her instincts from hockey broadcasting kicked in, comparing the situation to seeking comments from a respected Hall of Fame player before a major game. She believed Undertaker’s opinion on Oba Femi would add credibility and importance to the segment.
However, the interaction initially became even more uncomfortable when Redmond asked for “30 seconds” of his time.
“Is it going to be 30?” Undertaker replied, prompting Redmond to quickly admit the interview would probably take closer to three minutes.
Jackie Redmond Said Her Conversation With The Undertaker Went Well Despite Initial Awkwardness
Fortunately for Jackie Redmond, the conversation ultimately went well. She praised The Undertaker afterward, describing him as “amazing” and “gracious with his time,” and also complimented WWE’s behind-the-scenes creative environment for its broadcasters.
