Sheamus‘ nearly two-decade run with WWE could reportedly be coming to an end.
According to Fightful Select, the former WWE Champion’s contract has expired after he declined a proposed extension, meaning his departure from the company is expected in the near future.
The report states that WWE approached Sheamus with a restructured contract while he was sidelined due to injury. However, the veteran is said to have quickly turned down the offer.
Because his existing deal was already due to expire within a matter of months, Fightful reports there was no need for WWE to release him, a move that would have triggered the standard 90-day non-compete clause. While an exact contract expiration date has not been disclosed, the report claims his exit is expected soon.
Sheamus’ Lengthy WWE Career
Sheamus signed with WWE in 2007 before making a rapid rise to the top of the company. Just months after arriving on the main roster, he defeated John Cena to become the first Irish-born WWE Champion.
Over the course of his career, Sheamus captured four world championships and completed one of the most decorated resumes in WWE history. His accomplishments include winning the 2010 King of the Ring tournament, the 2012 Royal Rumble and the 2015 Money in the Bank ladder match, as well as multiple reigns as United States Champion and successful tag team runs alongside Cesaro as part of The Bar.
The 48-year-old has been absent from WWE programming while recovering from injury.
Neither Sheamus nor WWE has publicly commented on the report.
