The Beaver County Sports Hall of Fame is honouring one of their own: “The Franchise” Shane Douglas.
Beaver County is primarily located in western Pennsylvania. Douglas grew up in New Brighton, which is a borough located within Beaver County.
The announcement read: “Troy Martin, who wrestled under the name “The Franchise” Shane Douglas, wrestled for some of the most famous brands in the sport, winning the world tag-team championship with World Championship Wrestling, the ECW World Heavyweight Championship, the UWF TV title, the WWF Intercontinental title and the WCW United States Heavyweight Championship. Douglas is a Hardcore Hall of Fame inductee in the Class of 2014.”
Douglas is primarily known for his stint in ECW in which he led the switch from being part of the National Wrestling Alliance to Extreme Championship Wrestling. He blazed a trial there that others soon followed. He was ECW World Heavyweight Champion four times, ECW World Television Champion twice and NWA World Heavyweight Champion once.
Others who will be honoured include San Diego Padres’ Clayton Hamilton and Olympic Silver Medalist Christa Harmotto Dietzen.
The Hall of Fame banquet will take place on Saturday, June 13th at The Club at Shadow Lakes.
