Samoa Joe is set to take another break from AEW television.
During a backstage segment in the final hour of Wednesday’s combined AEW Dynamite and AEW Collision special, Samoa Joe announced that he would be “stepping away” for a few months. Joe appeared alongside fellow Opps members Hook, Katsuyori Shibata and Anthony Bowens.
Joe explained his absence by saying, “Opportunity calls…and Hollywood’s ringing” before reminding the group that they already knew how things worked whenever he stepped away. After shaking hands with the group, Joe departed as Hook immediately positioned himself between Bowens and Shibata, re-establishing himself as the faction’s leader in Joe’s absence.
What ‘Hollywood’ Project Is Samoa Joe Working On?
The “Hollywood” reference is believed to be connected to Samoa Joe filming season three of Peacock’s Twisted Metal series. Joe portrays Sweet Tooth physically in the show while Will Arnett provides the character’s voice.
The former AEW World Champion only recently returned from a concussion and has wrestled just five matches throughout 2026. His most recent appearance came at AEW Double or Nothing, where he lost to Will Ospreay in the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament.
