Ronda Rousey has landed a new role in the MMA world just weeks after announcing her retirement from competition.
According to Deadline, the former UFC and WWE star has signed on as an executive producer for Brawlers, an upcoming MMA drama based on Los Angeles’ amateur mixed martial arts scene.
The project has reportedly received California tax incentives and is scheduled to film on location in Los Angeles.
From star Harold Perrineau has been cast in the lead role, while Jonathan Fernandez wrote the screenplay and will also direct the film. Ronda Rousey will serve as an executive producer alongside Erwin More and Jill Tanner, with Andrew Carlberg, Jackie Carr, and Fernandez producing.
While plot details remain under wraps, the film is expected to centre on the city’s amateur MMA circuit.
Ronda Rousey’s Legendary MMA Career
Ronda Rousey is regarded as one of the biggest stars in combat sports history. She became the inaugural UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion, earned induction into the UFC Hall of Fame, and won a bronze medal in judo at the 2008 Beijing Olympics before transitioning to WWE.
During her WWE career, Rousey captured the Raw Women’s Championship and became one of the first women to headline WrestleMania, main eventing WrestleMania 35 alongside Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair.
Earlier this month, Rousey announced her retirement from MMA after defeating Gina Carano in less than 20 seconds during their comeback bout, which streamed on Netflix.
