Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins are set to renew one of WWE’s greatest rivalries after a World Heavyweight Championship match was made official for SummerSlam.
The two former Shield stablemates came face-to-face during the closing segment of Monday’s Raw, where Seth Rollins interrupted Roman Reigns and challenged the champion to a showdown at WWE’s biggest event of the summer.
Rollins reflected on their 14-year history together, dating back to the formation of The Shield, before declaring that it was time for him to reclaim the World Heavyweight Championship.
Reigns initially dismissed the challenge, telling Rollins he would have to get to the back of the line. Rollins disagreed, reminding Reigns of several defining moments in their rivalry, including pinning him and leaving WrestleMania 41 alongside Paul Heyman, sacrificing himself to help Cody Rhodes defeat Reigns at WrestleMania 40, and cashing in his Money in the Bank contract at WrestleMania 31 to capture the WWE Championship.
Rollins told Reigns he had controlled the rivalry ever since turning on him with a steel chair and said he wasn’t there to take anything away from him. Instead, he wanted to give Reigns something he had never truly achieved: the opportunity to beat him.
Reigns admitted there was truth to Rollins’ words before making it clear he needed to defeat his longtime rival.
“I don’t want to beat you,” Reigns said. “I need to beat you.”

With that, Roman Reigns officially accepted Seth Rollins’ challenge, setting up a World Heavyweight Championship match between the former Shield teammates at SummerSlam on August 1 and 2 in Minneapolis.
Rollins heads into the championship clash with momentum after defeating Bron Breakker in a steel cage match at Night of Champions.
