Former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Paul Wight has reportedly signed a new contract to remain with AEW.
According to Fightful Select, Paul Wight’s previous AEW deal was expected to expire earlier this year, but sources now believe he has agreed to a new contract extension with the company. While the exact length of the new deal has not been confirmed, the report noted that Wight is firmly under contract with AEW moving forward.
The 54-year-old joined AEW in 2021 after leaving WWE and has primarily worked in backstage and ambassador-style roles in recent years. Despite scaling back his in-ring activity, Wight has not officially retired from wrestling.
His most recent match was in 2024, and he has been documenting a major weight-loss transformation while teasing the possibility of another return to the ring. Wight has also previously stated that he hoped to remain with AEW through the latter stages of his wrestling career.
Paul Wight Named His AEW Dream Opponents
Ahead of his rumoured in-ring comeback, Paul Wight recently discussed several dream matches he would still like to have in AEW, including working with Kenny Omega and Darby Allin.
“I would love to either tag with Kenny or compete against Kenny,” Wight said.
He also joked about the kind of chaos he could create working opposite Allin in a heel role.
“I can only imagine the carnage I could do with Darby,” Wight said.
