Orange Cassidy has responded to claims he is a ‘comedy wrestler.
Orange Cassidy is well-known for his laid-back persona that extends to the ring, where he is often seen with his hands in his pockets, annoying opponents with ineffectual kicks to the shins. However, the star is also a serious performer, and has won acclaim for matches against the likes of Konosuke Takeshita, Jon Moxley, and Penta, as well as his nearly year-long International Championship reign.
Despite his skill in the ring, though, Cassidy is often labelled as simply a ‘comedy wrestler’ due to regular lighthearted spots during matches. In an interview with TMZ Sports, the star has admitted he doesn’t disagree with the sentiment, but added that it’s just one of many styles he utilises.
“When people refer to me as a comedy wrestler, I’m doing comedy wrestling, I don’t really disagree because that is an element I would like to use.
“I was fortunate enough to be trained around and wrestled with a lot of different people with a lot of different styles. And I think to me that is where I find my most success is that I will try to incorporate as much of every style of professional wrestling that I can into my matches.”
Orange Cassidy Believes It’s Worth Trying New Things
Although he knows he will be criticised for some of the things he does, Orange Cassidy says he has to try, and can always ditch things that don’t work.
“It’s a risk sometimes, you know. You don’t know if it’s going to work or not, but you have to try, and I don’t care, so I’ll just try. And I keep the stuff that works and ditch the stuff that doesn’t.”
Orange Cassidy currently holds the AEW World Trios Championship alongside his Conglomeration teammates Roderick Strong and Kyle O’Reilly after capturing the gold at Dynasty in April. The team most recently defended the titles against La Faccion Ingobernable on the June 6th edition of Collision.
