A major shake-up has officially taken place behind the scenes in NJPW.
Bushiroad announced overnight that it has transferred all of its shares in New Japan Pro-Wrestling to TV Asahi and CyberAgent, ending its position as the promotion’s majority owner. As part of the deal, NJPW will now operate as a consolidated subsidiary of TV Asahi with additional support from CyberAgent.
TV Asahi has been NJPW’s longtime broadcast partner and already held a 22.7 percent stake in the company prior to the transfer. Bushiroad previously owned 70 percent of NJPW before dividing those shares between the two new stakeholders. Following the transaction, TV Asahi and CyberAgent each now hold 46.3 percent ownership stakes in the promotion.
The reported value of the transfer is approximately 3.6 billion yen, which is roughly $22.6 million USD.
The development immediately raises questions regarding potential future collaboration between NJPW and CyberAgent-owned promotions. Through its subsidiary CyberFight, CyberAgent already controls several major Japanese wrestling companies, including Pro Wrestling NOAH, DDT Pro-Wrestling and Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling.
CyberAgent also operates the Abema streaming platform, which currently broadcasts WWE programming in Japan, although WWE content is expected to move to Netflix in the country before the end of 2026.
NJPW Not Planning Any Changes To Business Operations Or Event Schedule Following Ownership Change
In statements issued following the announcement, NJPW said it does not currently plan to make changes to its business operations or live event schedule. The company also praised TV Asahi’s strength in broadcasting and CyberAgent’s digital media capabilities as positive steps for future growth.
While the future of NJPW World was not directly addressed, TV Asahi has maintained involvement with the streaming platform since its launch and already controls the NJPW video library.
NJPW additionally thanked Bushiroad for supporting the company throughout its revival and international expansion over the past decade.
