Nikki Bella has clarified that Nia Jax was not responsible for the ankle injury she suffered on WWE SmackDown.
Nikki Bella was injured during the March 27 episode of WWE SmackDown while teaming with Brie Bella against Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair. Despite the injury occurring early in the match, Bella continued and also took part in a post-match segment involving Nia Jax and Lash Legend.
Following the show, speculation online suggested that Jax may have caused the injury during a ringside moment. Speaking on the Nikki & Brie Show, Bella dismissed those claims and defended Jax’s actions.
“What I want to clear up… Nia actually helped me,” Bella said. “When she came to take me out, I looked at her and I go, ‘Please no, my foot hurts so bad.’ She goes, ‘Wait, what?’ And I’m like, ‘I can’t get thrown out. I need to step out,’ so she helped me step out.”
Bella explained that she was unable to put weight on her foot at that stage and believes the situation could have been worse had she been thrown from the ring.
“I don’t know what, I would have belly flopped on the ground if I got thrown because I knew I couldn’t put my feet down.”
She also revealed the extent of the injury following medical tests the next day, after undergoing an MRI.
“They’re like, ‘Don’t know how you managed to do all of it,’ and then just broke it down to me that I tore, sprained and fractured my ankle,” Bella said. “You’re just gonna have to go straight to Birmingham… and we’re gonna get you in surgery ASAP.”
Nikki Bella Targeting Final WrestleMania Match Before Retirement
Nikki Bella is now focusing on her recovery and is not rushing a return to action. While acknowledging the stage of her career, she indicated she is aiming to compete again, with a potential final WrestleMania appearance among her long-term goals.
