Nick Aldis is no longer the General Manager of Smackdown…at least for now.
On Smackdown last night, Aldis and Gunther signed the contract for their match at SummerSlam with Raw GM Adam Pearce presiding over things.
Pearce made Aldis’ status very clear.
“Protocol dictates that as General Manager of Smackdown you cannot compete as a WWE superstar. Which means the second you put your name on this contract you voluntarily relinquish your duties as a general manager of Smackdown and I will assume those responsibilities,” said Pearce as Aldis shook his head the entire time acknowledging what he was giving up for a shot at Gunther.
Pearce also explained that the contract has a “hold harmless agreement” which means that Aldis agrees that WWE is not responsible for what happens in the match against Gunther.
“You want that?” laughed Gunther.
“I know exactly what I am signing and let me be crystal clear. I never wanted any of this. You are the one who has brought it to this situation,” Aldis said to Gunther. “Like HHH said, every man has his breaking point and congratulations. You found mine.”
“I am willing to accept the consequences of my actions and if that means relingquishiung my executive responsibilities, so be it,” Aldis continued.
After the contract was signed, Gunther shoved Aldis into Peace, kicked Aldis in the “lower abdomen” and powerbombed him through a table.
