Last week, MLP’s premiere delivered the matches and angles. Let’s see how they can build that foundation. Random matches aren’t going to cut it with wrestling fans who want cohesion, stories to follow and recognizable characters.
Already the commentary is kind of hard to hear. Hope that is just my set-up.
Mascara Dorada and Capitan Suicida versus 1st Faction (c) (Brent Banks, Sheldon Jean) with Bryce Hansen – MLP Canadian Tag Team Championship Match
Jean mocks the luchadores for being a little smaller than he is. Jean refuses to lock up and tags in Banks.
Lucha libre! Lucha libre!
Suicida easily gets out of an arm lock by doing flippy things off the ropes. Dorada is tagged in and enters with a high cross body on Banks. A hurricanrana sends Banks end over end into a corner. Jean enters the fray for a two-on-one but Dorada awkwardly puts them both down.
Suicida hoists Dorada into the air so he can double drop kick the champs. They then splash them on the floor. Back in the ring, it is a stereo double splash from the top rope for dual two counts. Banks is super kicked out of the ring.
Hansen leaps on the apron to bitch at the official about the illegal and blatant double team. He isn’t wrong. A knee by Jean knocks Suicida out of the ring. Jean backdrops Dorada over the top rope to the floor. Banks leaps onto both luchadores on the floor. Hansen pushes Suicida off the top rope. He still drop kicks Jean.
Suicida kicks Hansen off the apron. Jean pins Suicida with his finisher.
Winners: …and still MLP Canadian Tag Team Champions, 1st Faction.
We get a Dani Luna profile segment narrated by Mark Andrews from Subculture. Luna she wants to show a new side of her in MLP. Flash Morgan Webster chimes in as well. Certainly hope MLP has signed Subculture. They are fantastic. I just wish the producers had put up a chyron or super for them as some may not know who they are.
TJP gives his take on Johnny TV. He doesn’t think he is much of a superstar. He takes off his sunglasses revealing his red pupils.
“Have you ever seen Boone: The Bounty Hunter? Yeah, neither has anybody else,” jokes TJP saying Johnny has lost his mind…and his hair.
Dani Luna versus Vanna Black
Gisele Shaw, the MLP Women’s Canadian Champion, is on commentary. Luna wins via Fireman’s Carry into a powerbomb. As expected Shaw doesn’t have much to say about Luna.
Winner: Dani Luna
The rest of Subculture congratulate Luna backstage on her win. She fires back to Shaw’s commentary. “Keep my name out of your mouth,” warns Luna.
After his vicious attack last week, Rohan Raja calls out champ Stu Grayson in a promo segment.
“Last week was just a friendly reminder that you have a target on your back,” says Raja challenging Grayson to a title match.
Before that, Raja will defend the PWA Champions Grail next week against…Evil Uno.
We will also see:
Lethal Twist (Jay Lethal, Blake Christian and Lee Johnson) versus Billy Gunn, Zach Gowen and Psycho Mike.
Taylor Rising versus Alexia Nicole.
Subculture versus Fight or Flight (Gabriel Fuerza and Vaughn Vertigo)
Johnny TV versus TJP
One lone dude in the audience is cheering for Johnny TV. Both men miss falling elbow smashes. TJP spits his red mist and TV ducks. They both kick at the same time their legs striking each other.
TV puts TJP in a straight jacket of sorts.
“He’s going to give up,” shouts an optimistic TV to the crowd. TJP bridges and spins out of it. TV ends up in a Tarantula or Octopus, whatever. TJP starts working over TV’s shoulder and arm.
A Scorpion Kick has TJP hanging in the ropes for a nasty neckbreaker on the ring apron. TV walks TJP around the ring smashing TJP’s head against it.
TV starts filming TJP with his Meta Glasses as he beats the crap out of him. Funny stuff that. I have to get me a set of those. TV airplane spins TJP, whips him into a corner for an elbow smash.
TJP drop kicks TV and his Meta Glasses fly off. TJP puts them on. TV delivers a roundhouse kick to the head from the apron but TJP fires back with a Tarantula in the ropes.
Tornado DDT by TJP right in the middle of the ring. TV strikes with a kick off the ropes. TV misses his twisting moonsault, Starship Pain. TJP puts him in an arm bar submission but TV reaches the ropes.
TV hits a spinning neckbreaker and Starship Pain for the win.
