Former AEW World Champion MJF made his return on Wednesday’s AEW Grand Slam: Mexico, immediately setting his sights on reclaiming the AEW World Championship.
MJF made his first appearance since losing the title to Kenny Omega last month, attacking Andrade El Idolo moments after Andrade secured the number one entry in the Casino Gauntlet Match for All In: London by winning a three-way match.
Carrying the Triple B championship belt he held during his world title reign, MJF struck Andrade from behind before retrieving his trademark Dynamite Diamond Ring.
With Andrade laid out, the three-time former AEW World Champion grabbed a microphone and insulted both his rival and the Mexico City crowd before turning his attention to Omega and Will Ospreay.
Claiming Omega’s championship was nothing more than a “toy belt”, MJF announced that he intends to compete in a yet-to-be-announced qualifier for the number two entry in the Casino Gauntlet Match. He vowed to win the bout, earn another AEW World Championship opportunity, and reclaim what he believes is rightfully his.
The 30-year-old star also declared that he remains the true world champion, insisting that the Triple B is the only championship that should be recognised.
MJF Made His First AEW Appearance Since Losing At Beach Break
Wednesday’s appearance marked MJF’s first time on AEW programming since missing last month’s Redemption pay-per-view. No official reason has been given for his absence, although it had previously been reported that his AEW World Championship match against Kenny Omega, originally planned for Redemption, was moved forward to the Beach Break edition of Dynamite.
