“Daddy Magic” Matt Menard introduced the legendary Rougeau brothers, only to be interrupted by Rocky Romero. He said that the only wrestling family that matters in Canada is the Don Callis Family. That didn’t go over well with the crowd, or with the Rougeaus. They let him know how they felt about him trying to interject.
1P. The Conglomeration (c) vs. The Lethal Twist for the AEW Trios Championships
With The Demand joining commentary, the champions were met with a lethal trio. Jay Lethal, Lee Johnson, and Blake Christian put on a show with “Freshly Squeezed” Orange Cassidy, Kyle O’Reilly, and Roderick Strong. But they ultimately fell short.
Winners: The Conglomeration retained the AEW World Trios Championships
MAIN CARD
1. Jack Perry vs. The Beast Mortos vs. Komander vs. “Speedball” Mike Bailey vs. Nick Wayne vs. El Clon in a six-way match to determine the #1 contender for the AEW International Championship
The Beast Mortos and Komander stole the show, but it was hometown hero “Speedball” Mike Bailey standing tall after all the chaos. The building’s roof almost popped off. Word on the street is that some fans’ ears are still ringing even now from how loud it got in there.
Winner: “Speedball” Mike Bailey earned a title shot against International Champion Kyle Fletcher, which will be on Grand Slam on August 5th in Mexico City.
After the match, Bailey praised his next opponent as someone who shares at least one similarity in their professional wrestling journeys, “The Protostar” Kyle Fletcher:
“Becoming a pro wrestler can help people become better versions of themselves, right? … And I think someone like Kyle Fletcher is a great example of that. [He] started in Australia at 15 years old, 14 years old, right? 14 years old. Just took it up on himself to go to England and live in a house in Wolverhampton with like 12 other wrestlers, right? Being miserable, receiving $30 for to wrestle, and then New Japan, and then finally getting here [and becoming] International champion. Top of the world in All Elite Wrestling, only to be held down by Don Callis. That part is very unfortunate.”
2. Jon Moxley and Will Ospreay vs. The Young Bucks
It was one step too far that Moxley wanted Ospreay to take. The Aerial Assassin did not take that step, and it cost him and Moxley. At the end of the night, the discord would reach a new level.
Winners: The Young Bucks.
3. Kyle Fletcher (c) vs. Bandido for the AEW International Championship
Perhaps the best match of the night, which is saying something. After going for a cover in the first five minutes, Bandido traded offensive barrages with Kyle Fletcher. Ultimately, the champion prevailed.
Winner: Kyle Fletcher retained the AEW International Championship.
After the match, Fletcher reflected on the level his challenger brought out of him:
“You know, I always like being in there with people that push me to be my best, and I think you saw tonight he really did push me to be my best. I had to be my best to beat him.”
4. Jay White and Juice Robinson vs. The Dogs in a Double Chain tag-team match
Though the rest of the Bang Bang Gang intervened to disrupt the Death Riders’ interference, it was Clark Connors and David Finlay standing tall after the violence concluded.
Winners: The Dogs.
Backstage, Renee Paquette was with Will Ospreay after he and Jon Moxley lost to the Young Bucks. He said that he wouldn’t go too far in the match because he didn’t want to risk worsening Nick Jackson’s history of head trauma. Moxley was not impressed.
5. Hikaru Shida (c) vs. Maya World for the AEW TBS Championship
Despite taking the brunt of the champion’s offense to her legs, Maya World was able to kick away Shida’s kendo stick and pin the champion.
Winner: AND NEW TBS CHAMPION, Maya World!
After her win, World spoke on her recent momentum:
“I just take every opportunity that I’ve been given and definitely run with it. It’s something that I always like pride myself with. Like honestly, if I can bring her up, Athena. She honestly like prepared me like this.”
Taz joins Excalibur and Tony Schiavone on commentary, tagging in for Nigel McGuinness.
6. Christian Cage and Adam Copeland (c) vs. Claudio Castagnoli and PAC for the AEW Men’s World Tag Team Championships
Not letting Adam Copeland finish his entrance, The Dogs pounced. Christian Cage’s music hit. Claudio Castagnoli and PAC took him down easily, focusing then on Cope. But the champs showed their resilience and toughness.
Winners: Cage and Copeland retained the AEW Men”s World Tag Team Championships.
7. “The Painmaker” Chris Jericho vs. Tommaso Ciampa in a No Holds Barred match
To nobody’s surprise, “Painmaker” Jericho went beyond the limits of Chris Jericho would have done. After Ciampa donned a Bobby Orr Boston Bruins jersey and fought a Montreal Canadiens mascot plushie, Jericho knew that a drill was the only retribution.
Winner: “The Painmaker” Chris Jericho”.
Mick Foley was backstage with AEW Women’s Tag Team Champions, Divine Dominion. They called out the Brawling Birds as their next opponents.
8. Mark Davis (c) vs. Andrade El Idolo for the AEW National Championship
After withstanding a senton from the champion, Andrade El Idolo took charge and ultimately put his opponent down for three seconds.
Winner: AND NEW AEW NATIONAL CHAMPION, Andrade El Idolo.
9. Thekla (c) vs. Willow Nightingale for the AEW Women’s World Championship
After taking damage to her bandaged ear, Willow Nightingale also dropped an interfering Skye Blue. Thekla was unable to use the distraction to her advantage and her challenger made sure she’d pay.
Winner: AND NEW AEW WOMEN’S WORLD CHAMPION, Willow Nightingale.
After the match, Nightingale spoke on her winning the title:
“I was an indie wrestler and I used to work at a tattoo shop. I remember I came home one night a little intoxicated, and I was talking to my little sister, and I was giving her this pep talk. I was like, ‘Whatever you want to do in life, just give it your all, and you’re going to be the best at that. If you want to be a writer, you could be the top of the books. If you want to be an actress, you could be top of Broadway. Whatever.’ It’s like ‘one day I’m gonna be top of the wrestles’, which is not a grammatically correct sentence, but that is something that really stuck. And she has me saved in her phone as Top of the Wrestles. That was the first thing that popped in my mind when I held it and looked at the title. I was like, ‘this is it’. This is that weird thing that I tapped into. I was like, one day I’ll be top of the wrestles.”
10. Kenny Omega (c) vs. Kevin Knight for the AEW Men’s World Championship
After putting Kenny Omega in a headlock and also covering his ears while the crowd chanted “Speedball’s better!”, Kevin Knight’s lack of respect for the commentary desk came back to bite him. Omega dropped Knight with the One Winged Angel.
Winner: Kenny Omega retained the AEW Men’s World Championship.
The Death Riders rushed out and ganged up on Omega. The Young Bucks rushed out to help but the Death Riders’ numbers were still more. Even Marina Shafir got some shots in. Will Ospreay rushed out and stopped them from breaking Omega’s neck with a chair.
After the Death Riders cleared out, Ospreay and Omega shared some words with no mics. As soon as it appeared as though they’d go into All In with a mutual understanding, Omega attacked Ospreay from behind, standing over Ospreay as the show closed.
