Chelsea Green‘s reign as Interim WWE Women’s Champion could soon become permanent following the latest update on Rhea Ripley‘s injury.
WWE crowned Chelsea Green Interim Women’s Champion after she won a ladder match at SummerSlam, and the company opted not to vacate the title following Rhea Ripley’s knee injury. The decision marked a departure from WWE’s usual approach of stripping injured champions of their championships.
However, Ripley confirmed this week that she has undergone surgery to repair a torn meniscus after initially attempting to avoid an operation.

According to Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer, there have been “rumblings” that WWE could now move to officially vacate Rhea Ripley’s championship, elevating Chelsea Green from interim champion to recognised Women’s Champion.
The reported change comes after Ripley had already been sidelined since June before ultimately deciding to undergo surgery. Her recovery is now expected to take longer than originally anticipated.
Green has previously stated that she already considers herself the rightful champion, and the reported change would align with those comments.
No official decision has been announced by WWE, although Alvarez noted that more clarity on the championship situation could come during this Friday’s episode of SmackDown.
