Recent speculation surrounding Sammy Guevara‘s AEW future appears to have been based on a misunderstanding rather than any contractual change.
Rumours began circulating after Sammy Guevara posted a “new bio” on X on July 19. Fans noticed his profile did not mention AEW and assumed he had removed the promotion from his biography, leading to speculation that he had either left the company or been released.
However, speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez dismissed those claims, stating that Guevara remains under contract with AEW.
“As it turns out, his contract is not expired. He has not been released. Nothing has changed.”
Alvarez added that the assumption was based on incorrect information, explaining that AEW had never been included in Guevara’s X biography.
“I was told that AEW had never been in his bio, so when he said ‘new bio’ and people looked at his bio and saw that it had been removed, it actually had never been there in the first place.”
He reiterated that nothing has changed regarding Guevara’s status.
“I just know for sure his contract has not expired. He has not been released and apparently nothing has changed. I did hear from people who should probably know and they said nothing has changed.”
Alvarez also noted that Guevara’s wife, Tay Melo, reportedly requested her AEW release at some point in 2025 but was denied. Melo has not wrestled on AEW television since November 2025.

Sammy Guevara remains listed on AEW’s official roster page. A former three-time TNT Champion and one of AEW’s original “Four Pillars” alongside MJF, Darby Allin and Jack Perry, Guevara has made only limited appearances on AEW television in 2026, spending much of the year competing in Ring of Honor and CMLL.
