Konosuke Takeshita captured the AEW International Championship at AEW Double or Nothing, but his celebration was quickly overshadowed by the shocking return and betrayal of Kyle Fletcher.
In a highly anticipated rematch more than a year in the making, Konosuke Takeshita defeated fellow Don Callis Family member Kazuchika Okada in a hard-hitting contest that revisited their rivalry from last year’s Continental Classic. The match featured several callbacks to Okada’s signature offence, including Takeshita using the Rainmaker before following up with Okada’s own dropkick. A devastating running knee strike only earned a one-count, but Takeshita finally secured the victory moments later after Okada was dropped with Raging Fire.
The loss ended Okada’s dominant 317-day reign as International Champion. He originally unified the title against Kenny Omega at All In last July and successfully defended the championship nine times. The victory marks Takeshita’s second reign with the title and his first since March 2025.
Numerous Run-Ins Followed Konosuke Takeshita’s Title Victory
Tension escalated immediately after the match when Don Callis entered the ring alongside Kazuchika Okada, Rocky Romero and Mark Davis. The group confronted Konosuke Takeshita over a brainbuster delivered to Okada on the outside earlier in the bout before Kyle Fletcher’s music interrupted the scene.
Making his first appearance since suffering a meniscus injury in March, Fletcher initially embraced Takeshita and raised his arm in celebration. The mood quickly shifted when Fletcher suddenly clotheslined his longtime ally before planting him with a brainbuster.
As the Don Callis Family regrouped in the ring, Fletcher and Okada simultaneously picked up the International Championship to a strong crowd reaction. Okada ultimately allowed Fletcher to take possession of the title, with Fletcher then smashing Takeshita in the head with the belt and making it clear he intends to pursue the championship himself.
The match also served as revenge for Takeshita following their Continental Classic semi-final clash at Worlds End last December, where Okada used a screwdriver to steal the victory.
