Jim Ross will not travel to London for AEW All In after doctors advised him against flying as he continues recovering from brain surgery. Ross underwent surgery to have a shunt inserted to drain excess fluid from his brain and is still experiencing headaches, memory issues and balance problems. The 74-year-old had targeted Wembley Stadium as the next milestone in his recovery, but his brain surgeon and another doctor determined that the risks of travelling were too high. Ross admitted on Grilling JR that he is “very disappointed” to miss the event but said he is continuing to heal and remains determined to return to commentary, although no new comeback date has been set.
Hulk Hogan‘s WWF World Heavyweight Championship belt from WrestleMania 2 has sold for $414,800 at Heritage Auctions. The belt, featuring the classic globe design associated with Hogan’s 1980s run, was photo-matched to images of him from WrestleMania 2 and other photoshoots from the period. According to the auction listing, Hogan later gave the championship to the son of a close family friend, whose family retained it for years. Hogan wore the belt during the period surrounding his historic WrestleMania 2 steel cage victory over King Kong Bundy, which remains the only traditional steel cage match to headline WrestleMania.
VertVixen has reportedly signed with AEW after regularly appearing for both AEW and Ring of Honor. According to Fightful Select, the 36-year-old is now under contract with the company, although it remains unclear whether she has signed a full-time salaried deal or a per-appearance agreement. VertVixen has worked regularly for ROH since July and previously made more than two dozen appearances across AEW and ROH. She currently holds several championships on the independent scene, including the MPX Women’s Championship, BTW Women’s Championship and Sabotage Tag Team Championship.
Last Friday’s WWE SmackDown saw increases in both total viewership and the key 18-49 demographic despite competition from several NFL preseason games. The episode averaged 1.28 million viewers on USA Network, up three per cent from the previous week, while its 0.32 rating in the 18-49 demo was up seven per cent. Both figures were also above SmackDown’s previous ten-week averages. The show was headlined by CM Punk defending the Undisputed WWE Championship against Kevin Owens in Toronto and also featured a confrontation between Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton.
