Former WWE writer Chris Dunn believes The New Day would still be with WWE indefinitely if Vince McMahon were still running the company.
Speaking on the Public Enemies Podcast, Dunn reflected on WWE’s post-WrestleMania 42 roster cuts, which included the departures of Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods after both reportedly declined significant pay cuts.
Dunn argued that fans are too quick to blame TKO Group Holdings for WWE releases, noting that Vince McMahon also regularly made roster cuts during his tenure. However, Dunn claimed McMahon viewed The New Day differently from most acts in the company.
“Vince was making these cuts, too. There was always spring cleaning,” Dunn said. “But somebody like The New Day, who he considered a national treasure, he would keep them forever because they should stay.”
Former WWE Writer Chris Dunn Stated That Vince McMahon Would Never Ask Stars To Take A Pay Cut
Chris Dunn also claimed that Vince McMahon would never have approached Kingston and Woods about taking pay reductions, believing he would have either kept them or released them outright.
“Vince never would have asked anyone to take a pay cut.”
Big E remains with WWE in a broadcasting role after retiring from in-ring competition following the neck injury he suffered in 2022.
