A former WWE star has revealed that Triple H played a surprising role in creating their look, but not before receiving approval from The Undertaker.
Appearing on Insight with Chris Van Vliet (quotes courtesy of wrestlezone.com), Heidenreich looked back on his 2005 run alongside WWE Hall of Famer Road Warrior Animal and discussed the process behind his transformation into a member of the legendary Legion of Doom. According to Heidenreich, the character change developed gradually after WWE paired him with Animal. One of the first ideas involved a face-paint design created by Animal himself.
“We started that progression of me doing the hair,” Heidenreich said. “My first face paint was kind of a butterfly effect thing that Animal came up with.”
The design that eventually made it to television, however, came from an unexpected source.
“The skull thing was actually given to me by Triple H,” Heidenreich revealed. “He got me and asked me to come into the back room. So I go into this locker room, and he sits there; it’s bizarre. He’s putting that skull on my face in real time.”
Triple H Had To Seek Approval From The Undertaker Before Heidenreich Could Go Ahead With The New Gear Design
Despite Triple H creating the look, Heidenreich said there was still one important person who needed to sign off on it.
“It was his idea,” Heidenreich explained. “But then we had to go ask The Undertaker… and he approved it. He said it’s okay, I like it.”
The concern reportedly stemmed from the skull imagery being closely associated with The Undertaker’s character at the time.
For Heidenreich, becoming part of the Legion of Doom carried special significance beyond the television presentation. He recalled being a fan of the iconic tag team long before joining WWE and even dressing as Legion of Doom during his college years. Years later, he was able to show those photos to Animal while working alongside him on WWE television.
