A former WWE star says Nia Jax has become a locker room leader in the promotion.
Four years before signing with the company, Kay Lee Ray made her WWE debut in October 2025 in NXT, where Nia Jax defeated her in under three minutes. During a recent virtual signing for K&S WrestleFest, Ray recalled being shocked that Jax asked her to take the lead.
“The first time I went into NXT, I worked Nia Jax, Dakota (Kai) worked her in her first match. I worked her later on that day in the second match, and I’m so nervous. First thing I’ve ever done with WWE. It’s eventually our time to chat over things and I was just like, ‘Okay, so what we doing?’ She just went, ‘I don’t know. You’re the vet. You tell me,’ and I was like, ‘What? No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no!”
“I expected just to be told, go here and do this, do this, and that was it, but no, we got way more than I thought.”
Kay Lee Ray Says Nia Jax Supports Other Women In WWE
The former Women’s Tag Team Champion went on to explain how Jax was known for supporting the other women in the locker room, even supporting them to speak up when needed.
“That was a great experience but, it’s mad now to think how experienced Nia is now. She is a locker room leader there and she does support a lot of the girls. Maybe sometimes we feel like we couldn’t speak up; she would always either get you to go say the right things or she just was always there to help.”
On the July 24th edition of SmackDown, Nia Jax missed her chance to compete at SummerSlam when Jade Cargill caused her to get disqualified in a qualifying bout against Charlotte Flair for a place in the Interim WWE Women’s Championship Ladder Match.
