A former WWE Champion was pitched for a surprise return to the company at the upcoming Clash in Italy event.
A potential appearance by Santino Marella at this weekend’s Clash in Italy was reportedly discussed within WWE creative. According to WrestleVotes Radio via Fightful Select, a pitch was made for the former Intercontinental Champion to appear at the May 31 event in Turin. However, there is currently no indication whether the idea progressed beyond the discussion stage.
Marella has long been associated with Italy through his WWE character. He made his memorable debut on Raw in Milan in 2007, where he was introduced as a fan from the crowd before defeating Umaga to capture the Intercontinental Championship in his first match.
Although portrayed as an Italian native from Calabria, Marella, whose real name is Anthony Carelli, was born in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.
