A former TNA World Champion is reportedly working behind the scenes in AEW, although they have not officially signed with the promotion.
According to Bodyslam.net, Sami Callihan has been serving as a backstage producer at recent episodes of AEW Dynamite and AEW Collision. He was reportedly present at the July 8 Beach Break edition of Dynamite, the July 11 episode of Collision in Roanoke, Virginia, and the July 15 and 16 television tapings in Boston, Massachusetts.
The report states that Callihan has been working as a producer, one of several backstage roles he previously held during his time in TNA Wrestling. However, AEW sources reportedly indicated that he is not currently under contract with the company.
It remains unclear whether Callihan is working under a temporary arrangement or on a trial basis. Bodyslam noted the situation is similar to Chris Hero‘s arrival in AEW as a backstage producer in 2023 before he later secured a full-time role.
Sami Callihan Left TNA Earlier This Year
Sami Callihan departed TNA in June after the promotion opted not to renew his contract. The former TNA World Champion recently revealed he had believed he was in line for a promotion to the company’s creative team following Tommy Dreamer’s departure, only to instead learn that his deal would not be extended.
In addition to his in-ring career, Callihan has extensive backstage experience, having worked in production, marketing, merchandise and creative roles during his time with TNA. He also runs Wrestling REVOLVER, giving him experience in event promotion and booking.
