Eric Bischoff has reflected on the pressures of running WCW, admitting that managing some of the biggest names in the industry was the most exhausting part of the job.
Speaking with Inside The Ropes, Eric Bischoff explained that his later move to WWE as an on-screen character felt far less demanding, largely because he no longer had to oversee a large and complex roster behind the scenes.
Bischoff revealed he had more than 100 wrestlers under contract during WCW’s peak, including major stars such as Roddy Piper, Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, Lex Luger, Sting, and Goldberg.
“That’s very stressful being in charge of a hundred wrestlers,” Bischoff said. “I had over 100, 110 wrestlers under contract at one point in time… These are all big personalities that are a pain in the ass to work with for the most part.”
He added that dealing with egos and competing interests was the most draining aspect of his role.
“It was the most draining part of my job, managing the egos and the personalities. So I thought I get to come and all I have to do is go out and be a good character on TV, that’s easy.”

Eric Bischoff noted that removing that responsibility allowed him to enjoy his time on-screen far more, highlighting just how demanding WCW’s backstage environment was during its peak years.
“I thought I get to come and all I have to do is go out and be a good character on TV. That’s easy. But not having that stress was probably why I was able to enjoy it as much as I did.”
