Darby Allin wasted no time backing up his promise of an active title reign, successfully defending the AEW World Championship on the April 22 episode of AEW Dynamite before immediately being confronted by his next challenger.
After defeating MJF for the title on last week’s episode of Dynamite, Darby Allin made it clear he intended to defend the championship regularly, and that approach was tested straight away in a physical main event against Tommaso Ciampa.
The match quickly turned into a hard-fought battle, with Ciampa targeting Allin using heavy strikes and punishing offence around ringside. Both men absorbed significant punishment as the bout escalated, with Ciampa left bloodied as the action intensified.
Allin responded in his usual high-risk fashion, launching himself from the ring post through the timekeeper’s table in one of the match’s defining moments. Despite enduring multiple knee strikes and Ciampa’s signature offence, he continued to fight back.
In the closing stages, Allin turned the momentum by locking in a Scorpion Deathlock. Ciampa attempted to reach the ropes but was unable to escape, eventually submitting to give Allin his first successful title defence.
Following the match, Ciampa showed respect, shaking Allin’s hand and presenting him with the championship.
Brody King Announced Himself As The Next Number One Contender For Darby Allin’s AEW World Title
Moments later, Brody King made his way to the ring after picking up a win earlier in the night. King praised Darby Allin’s performance before shifting focus to the AEW World Title, confirming he had already spoken to Tony Khan and secured a championship match for next week.
Allin accepted the challenge without hesitation, setting up his next defence as his reign continues with little time to recover. With history between the two and contrasting styles, Allin and King are now set to collide for the AEW World Championship on next week’s Dynamite.
