Cody Rhodes suffered a serious facial injury during the main event of WrestleMania 42, with further details now emerging on the extent of the damage.
The injury occurred in the closing stages of Cody Rhodes’ match against Randy Orton, when Orton landed a punch that immediately opened a cut on Rhodes’ face. The visible damage worsened as the match continued, with Rhodes competing through the closing moments despite the injury.
During the WrestleMania post-show, it was confirmed that Rhodes’ left eye had swollen shut, raising immediate concerns over his condition. Commentary figures Joe Tessitore and Peter Rosenberg also referenced the possibility of concussion protocol, while WWE released footage showing medical staff attending to Rhodes following the match.
A subsequent report from BodySlam+ indicates the situation was more severe than initially presented. Rhodes was reportedly cut in multiple areas during the match, with the injuries requiring several staples to close. The swelling around his eye was described as significant by the end of the bout.
WWE has since confirmed that Rhodes is not currently medically cleared to compete due to an orbital injury. At this stage, there is no confirmed timeline for his return to in-ring action.
Cody Rhodes Pulled From WWE World Due To Eye Injury
The impact of the injury was immediate beyond the ring. Following the event, WWE issued an alert to ticket holders confirming that Cody Rhodes had been pulled from all scheduled appearances at the WWE World convention on Sunday due to the injuries sustained.
Rhodes was later seen in public with visible signs of the injury, including heavy swelling around the affected eye.
