Cody Rhodes has revealed that a WWE Hall of Famer gave him help worth millions of dollars after he left WWE in 2016.
While he is now one of the biggest stars in WWE, things were very different for Cody Rhodes back in 2016. Frustrated with a creative direction that saw him portraying ‘Stardust’ on the lower end of the card, Rhodes asked for his release from the company.
After leaving, Rhodes began working on the independent scene as well as ROH, NJPW, and TNA. During this period, he reinvented himself as The American Nightmare and began to gain popularity among fans.
On the latest episode of his podcast, ‘What Do You Wanna Talk About?’, Rhodes revealed that his guest, Diamond Dallas Page, had played a key role in his development during that time. This was primarily through DDP giving him free production work through Comeback Studios, which he runs alongside Steve Yu.
“My time away from WWE and my time starting anything on my own is heavily reliant on millions of dollars — and I am not exaggerating, millions of dollars of production that was given to me for free by Steve Yu and yourself and your wonderful team there.”
Rhodes joked that the goodwill gesture had a downside, as WWE now knows they can use the studio if they need anything from him “in a pinch.”
“To the point now where WWE knows, and I don’t know if this is a good thing or a bad thing, WWE knows in a pinch if they need me to do an interview, in a pinch if they need me via Zoom, if they need me to film something, if they need a place, a studio, that’s where they go.”
Could CM Punk Be Coming For Cody Rhodes?
Now firmly established on SmackDown as the Undisputed WWE Champion, Cody Rhodes has a target on his back, and CM Punk could be coming to make a challenge. Punk has not been seen since the Raw after he lost the World Heavyweight Title to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 42. On that show, he got into a war of words with Rhodes that ended with him teasing that he could look for an opportunity to challenge The American Nightmare for his title.
It has since been reported that Punk will return on SmackDown, potentially putting him on a collision course with Cody Rhodes, which is one direction that has seemingly been discussed in WWE.
