Cody Rhodes has admitted he “failed” at being an EVP in AEW, but he’s ready to try again in WWE.
When AEW formed in 2019, Cody Rhodes, The Young Bucks, and Kenny Omega were appointed Executive Vice Presidents of the promotion. While Omega and the Jackson brothers are still in those positions in the promotion, Rhodes departed in 2022 to return to WWE, where he has concentrated on simply being a wrestler.
Soon after leaving AEW, Rhodes made it clear that he didn’t want a management job in wrestling again, saying that despite trying, he “wasn’t mature enough” for the EVP position he had held in the promotion.
Now, however, the American Nightmare has had second thoughts. Speaking on his ‘What Do You Wanna Talk About’ podcast, Rhodes said that while he “failed” as an EVP, he learned from the experience, and revealed he recently visited the WWE HQ as he was interested in getting back behind the scenes.
“I wanted to go to the office to see what life would be like at the office, at WWE HQ. I had a career before as an executive vice president. I failed at it — had some success along the way but failed. Ultimately learned a great deal from said failure, as we do, that’s what we need.”
Cody Rhodes Wants To Find Out Where He Fits In At WWE HQ
Cody Rhodes treated the experience like a job opportunity, saying he wrote a full tech format and took it to various teams in the building to try to find out where he could be an asset backstage.
“But I wanted to go. I said, ‘I’m going to treat it like I’m going there for a job.’ I’ll write a sample format. I’m going to write a full tech format, times and everything. And not a dreamer one, I’ll take what we have now and put one together. I’m going to go and share that with Bruce Prichard and the creative team. And I’m going to sit with them. I’m going to meet with Lee Fitting and his team. I’m going to meet these departments. And not the, ‘Hi, I’m such and such.’ Not that. We can do that in three minutes. I’m going to actually, ‘No, what can I really do for you?’ Like, ‘Community, what can I really do for you?’ Do I fit in anywhere? Because I got the bug.”
On the May 1st edition of SmackDown, Cody Rhodes found the next challenger for the Undisputed WWE Championship when he was blindsided by Gunther, who left him lying with a Sleeper hold.
