A major match is reportedly set to headline WWE’s plans for SummerSlam, with CM Punk expected to collide with one of the company’s top stars after months of speculation.
According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, CM Punk is scheduled to face Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam, with the bout having been the long-term plan dating back to WrestleMania 42.
Punk has not appeared on WWE television since his confrontation with Rhodes following WrestleMania. The report states that he has been pushing to make his return on the July 6 edition of Raw in his hometown of Chicago, although the broader creative plan reportedly calls for a comeback on SmackDown.

WWE has also advertised CM Punk for next week’s episode of Raw, suggesting that his return to television is imminent as the company begins building towards SummerSlam.
SummerSlam is scheduled to take place on August 1 and 2 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, with Punk and Rhodes now reportedly on course to meet at one of WWE’s biggest events of the year.
Matches that are also confirmed for the event will see Liv Morgan defending the WWE Women’s World Title against Iyo Sky. Sky earned the opportunity for a world title shot after defeating Morgan in the Queen of the Ring final at Night of Champions.
Oba Femi is set to face Brock Lesnar in a Hell in a Cell match, and Roman Reigns will defend his World Heavyweight Championship against Seth Rollins.
