Chris Jericho has stated that he will revive one of his many gimmicks at AEW Redemption.
Chris Jericho will revive his Painmaker persona when he faces Tommaso Ciampa at AEW Redemption later this month. The match was confirmed during Wednesday night’s episode of Dynamite after Jericho appeared in a pre-recorded promo wearing the signature Painmaker face paint and hat to challenge Ciampa to a rematch.
Ciampa later accepted the challenge during a live promo and also announced that he will be in action on this week’s edition of Collision in his hometown of Boston.
The rematch comes one week after the pair’s violent encounter on the Beach Break edition of Dynamite, which saw Ciampa defeat Jericho in a bloody contest. Following the match, Ciampa teased using a power drill on his defeated opponent.
The Return Of Chris Jericho’s “Painmaker” Persona Could Point Towards A Stipulation Being Added To The Redemption Bout
While AEW has not officially announced any special stipulation for the bout, Jericho’s Painmaker character has often been associated with hardcore matches throughout his career.
Jericho has previously competed as The Painmaker in both AEW and NJPW, including a barbed-wire match against Eddie Kingston in July 2022.
AEW Redemption takes place on July 26 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
