Buddy Matthews appears to have taken a major step towards his return to the ring after hinting that he has been medically cleared to compete again.
The AEW star has been sidelined since February 2025 after suffering a serious ankle injury during his entrance for a match against Kazuchika Okada at AEW Grand Slam Australia. Despite the injury, Buddy Matthews went on to wrestle the match before later undergoing ankle surgery after his recovery took longer than expected.
On Tuesday, Matthews shared a cryptic message on Instagram that strongly suggested he has now received medical clearance.
“The Devil signed the clearance. Hell stamped its approval. No more barriers. Only timing.”
Buddy Matthews Made A Surprise Appearance At An Independent Show In May Despite Still Being Injured
Although he was not medically cleared to wrestle at the time, Buddy Matthews made a surprise appearance for Australia’s World Series Wrestling in May. He is also scheduled to compete on the promotion’s five-show tour later this year.
It remains unclear when Matthews will make his return to AEW television. His absence came shortly after Malakai Black‘s departure from the company, leaving the remaining members of the House of Black to continue without their longtime leader.
