AJ Styles wishes he could have faced The Undertaker earlier in his career.
At WrestleMania 36, AJ Styles took on The Undertaker in a Boneyard match. The cinematic match was the Deadman’s last, and he went out on a high with the pair fighting all around an abandoned farm. Undertaker won the match by burying Styles in a grave before riding away on his motorbike.
Looking back on the match in an interview with Sporf, Styles said that, while the match was “unbelievable,” he regrets that they weren’t able to get to it sooner.
“It was definitely different. It was something we didn’t know was going to happen until it did. Getting the Boneyard match built to look like the match that it looked like was pretty unbelievable.
“Man, to have the match with The Undertaker, his last match, I wish we could’ve done it earlier. Him and I, there is something about the timing we had together, it was a recipe for a great match, we just got to do it in a cinematic way.”
