AJ Styles has heaped praise on Rey Mysterio, describing the WWE Hall of Famer as the greatest luchador of all time.
Speaking on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, the WWE Hall of Famer reflected on sharing the ring with fellow Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio and explained why he believes the legendary masked star stands above every other luchador.
“Rey Mysterio is, in my opinion, the best luchador ever, ever. I had the opportunity to be in the ring with him a couple times. He’s so good, dude. It’s ridiculous. He shouldn’t be that good, especially even now. He’s so good, man.”
AJ Styles also praised Mysterio’s ability to turn his size into one of his greatest strengths, saying his presence makes him feel like one of wrestling’s biggest stars.
“The thing about Rey is he is a superstar because he is small, not because he’s average. You meet Rey and you go, ‘Wow,’ and for some reason, because he is this small, he comes across as the biggest star you’ve ever met.”

According to AJ Styles, Rey Mysterio possesses a unique quality that cannot be taught.
“The size doesn’t matter. As the kids say, he’s got an aura. He’s got it, man. He’s so special because he is the size that he is.”
Styles made the comments while discussing the evolution of professional wrestling and the opportunities created for smaller competitors. He credited both Mysterio and Bryan Danielson with helping prove that wrestlers did not need to fit the traditional heavyweight mould to reach the top of the industry.
Mysterio continues to compete at the highest level decades into his career, while also playing a prominent role in WWE’s partnership with AAA and helping develop the next generation of luchadors.
