AJ Styles thinks Sami Zayn losing the Undisputed WWE Title too soon would be bad for business.
Soon after Sami Zayn won the Undisputed WWE Championship at Night of Champions, speculation began that the move was just a token gesture, and he would not keep the title for long. This line of thought was intensified when it was announced that Zayn would defend the title against the man he won it from, Cody Rhodes, on the July 6th edition of Raw in Chicago.
One man who hopes that Zayn won’t simply be a transitional champion is AJ Styles. On his Phenomenally Retro Podcast, the two-time WWE Champion made it clear that he thinks Zayn is capable of holding the title for the long-term.
“I don’t want to see a transitional champion. I think that Sami’s more than capable of pulling off being a World Champion and totally being the underdog here. But I don’t know what the next part of the story is. The great thing about that is that’s a good thing, and that keeps me interested in what’s going to happen, the build-up to SummerSlam.”
If Zayn does hold on to the title, Styles thinks there’s “magic to be made” during his reign.
“You got people worried that Sami’s just going to be a transitional champion. He’s gonna win just to lose it to who knows? I don’t think that is the best way to go about doing the storyline. I think there’s some magic to be made.”
Sami Zayn Reflects On “Insane” Odds Of Him Becoming Undisputed WWE Champion
Shortly after winning the title, Sami Zayn said he knew how privileged he was to win the Undisputed WWE Title. With there being millions of people in the world aiming to win the top title in WWE, Zayn said the odds of him being the man to hold the gold were “insane,” and that he looked at it as a “remarkable experience and a remarkable privilege.”
