AJ Styles has once again suggested that he could be open to returning to the ring for one final match despite retiring from in-ring competition earlier this year.
The former WWE Champion brought his full-time career to an end at the 2026 Royal Rumble, where he was defeated by Gunther. Although AJ Styles had previously indicated that 2026 would be his final year as an active wrestler, his retirement came much earlier than many expected, with Styles explaining that he wanted to step away before he could no longer perform at the level fans had come to expect.
Speaking on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Styles admitted he has not completely ruled out making a one-off return in the future.
“I have said this before, and I’ll say it again, usually we’re granted one comeback for one match. I’m not saying it’s going to happen. I’m just saying, usually it’s granted. Never say never.”
AJ Styles Would Come Out Of Retirement To Wrestle With His Sons
AJ Styles went on to reveal that the prospect of sharing the ring with his children would be a major motivation for a comeback.
“Listen, the opportunity to wrestle with my son or sons, that’d be pretty cool.”
One of Styles’ sons, Avery Jones, recently began his own wrestling career. During the interview, Styles also revealed that his oldest son has become increasingly interested in wrestling after watching his younger brother make his debut, adding that he believes the pair could eventually form a tag team.
