Several prominent AEW veterans are reportedly pushing for the company to sign Sheamus following the end of his lengthy WWE career.
The Irish star became a free agent on October 1 after spending nearly two decades with WWE, immediately prompting speculation over where he could wrestle next.
According to Fightful Select, some veteran names within AEW have advocated for the promotion to bring Sheamus in. However, despite the internal support, the report says the two sides have had no substantial contract discussions. Sheamus, whose real name is Stephen Farrelly, therefore remains a free agent as speculation continues over his next move.
AEW Veterans Back Potential Sheamus Move
Sheamus left WWE after his contract expired, ending an association with the company that had lasted almost 20 years. The former WWE Champion reportedly declined a restructured contract that would have significantly reduced his salary, allowing him to enter free agency in early October.
Discussions about a possible move to AEW had already begun before the latest report emerged. Claudio Castagnoli, who previously teamed with Sheamus in WWE, has publicly said he wants to see his former partner move to AEW.
The pair enjoyed considerable success together as members of The Bar, establishing themselves as one of WWE’s leading tag teams during their time together. Sheamus would also find some other familiar faces in the company following the recent arrivals of Kofi Kingston and Austin Creed.
Both men moved to WWE’s rival promotion after leaving the company, and Sheamus is now attracting support from established members of the AEW roster. However, despite that backing, Sheamus has yet to sign with the promotion, and substantial negotiations between the two sides reportedly have not taken place.
