Sheamus has addressed potential opponents after officially becoming a free agent following the end of his 20-year run with WWE.
The former Sheamus’ contract expired on October 1, with Fightful Select confirming his free-agent status on Friday. Now using S. Farrelly, a shortened version of his real name Stephen Farrelly, the 48-year-old responded to the news on X.
“all challengers welcome – s. farrelly 🐺”
Farrelly was expected to leave WWE in several months. Fightful Select reported in July that he had turned down a restructured contract extension with the company. On July 10, Farrelly changed his social media name and posted a farewell message to WWE. The company has since moved his profile to the alumni section of its website.
AEW Reportedly Interested In Sheamus
Sheamus has not competed since the November 17, 2025 episode of Raw, when he teamed with John Cena and Rey Mysterio against The Judgment Day. He underwent shoulder surgery the following month and remained out of action for the remainder of his WWE contract.
Farrelly joined WWE in 2006 and became one of the most decorated wrestlers of his generation. During his two decades with the company, he won the WWE Championship three times and the World Heavyweight Championship once. Farrelly was also a three-time United States Champion and five-time tag team champion.
He won the King of the Ring tournament in 2010, the Royal Rumble in 2012, and the Money in the Bank briefcase in 2015. The Intercontinental Championship was the only WWE men’s Grand Slam title he never captured.
Farrelly’s next destination remains unknown, although AEW has reportedly shown interest. Fightful previously reported that AEW was expected to be interested in signing the former Sheamus, with several members of the roster said to favour bringing him into the company. However, as of that report, Farrelly and AEW had not discussed anything.
