Adam Copeland has admitted he does not know when his AEW contract will expire.
Adam Copeland joined AEW back in 2023 on a multi-year deal, and last year hinted that he planned to retire when his contract ended in 2027, when he will be 53 years old. However, those plans may have changed as The Rated-R Superstar has revealed that his contract with the company has been extended several times.
Speaking to ClutchPoints, Copeland explained that AEW added time to his deal whenever he had an extended absence, which included his lengthy recovery from a broken leg, and time he’s taken out to film movies. It’s now got to the point where even the WWE Hall of Famer doesn’t know when the contract expires.
“I broke my leg, so there’s injury time added, and I had to go film Beekeeper [2] and Percy Jackson, so [that’s] added. Anytime I have to take a break, that gets added on the back end. I’m not even sure when it’s up.”
I Don’t Care If I Get This Big, Tearful Sendoff” – Adam Copeland
When asked about retirement, Copeland said he’s “easy to please” and will go the route Tony Khan asks him to, regardless of whether it’s a John Cena-style retirement tour or something smaller.
According to Copeland, he already had his send-off when he was forced to retire in 2011 following a neck injury that left him out of action for almost a decade. What he does know is that being able to go out on his own terms will be a different experience, regardless of what form that takes.
“I already had my sendoff. This time, it’ll be my choice, and that makes it a different experience entirely.
“I don’t care if I get this big, tearful sendoff… I have no preconceived idea of what it needs to be.”
Adam Copeland is set to team up with Christian Cage at Double Or Nothing to challenge FTR for the AEW World Tag Team Championship in an ‘I Quit’ match. The bout has an added stipulation that, if Cope and Cage lose, they will never be able to team up again.
