New AEW Tag Team Champions were crowned in violent fashion as Adam Copeland and Christian Cage defeated FTR in an I Quit New York Street Fight at AEW Double or Nothing.
The chaotic opener saw all four men brawl across the arena with weapons heavily involved throughout the contest. Late in the match, Beth Phoenix appeared to neutralise Stokely, but the situation quickly escalated when she was shoved into the steel steps by FTR. Moments later, Hathaway attempted to send Beth through a flaming table before she countered at the last second, dragging him into the danger zone and sending both Stokely and Cash Wheeler crashing through the table.
With Wheeler and Hathaway effectively taken out of the match, Adam Copeland and Christian Cage turned their attention to Dax Harwood. Cage was locked in a Sharpshooter while Copeland applied a crossface, but Harwood refused to surrender despite the punishment.
The finish came after Beth introduced a spiked board into the ring. Copeland used the weapon on Harwood, finally forcing the FTR member to say “I Quit” and handing Cope and Cage the AEW Tag Team Championships.
Adam Copeland & Christian Cage Win AEW World Tag Team Championship After Vowing To Retire As A Team If They Lost
The rivalry between the teams has stretched back several months. Adam Copeland and Christian Cage previously defeated FTR at All Out before stepping away after Beth Phoenix was injured during the feud. The duo returned and unsuccessfully challenged for the titles again at Dynasty in April, leading Copeland to declare that Double or Nothing would be their final match together if they failed to win the championships.
