An 18-time boxing world champion has denied claims that Conor McGregor offered them $200 million for a two-fight deal.
Conor McGregor’s claim that Terence Crawford turned down a lucrative two-fight deal has been firmly denied by the former undisputed boxing champion.
Speaking to Yahoo Sports, Crawford disputed McGregor’s recent comments, insisting there was never a $200 million offer on the table for a proposed boxing match and mixed martial arts bout.
McGregor made the claim during an appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, where he alleged he personally contacted Crawford alongside Turki Alalshikh to discuss the blockbuster proposal.
“I got on the phone, ‘What’s the craic, Terence? It’s the Mac Daddy. I got [Turki] here. We’ve got a big deal for you. It’s hundreds of millions, $200 million to be exact. Mixed martial arts against me, and a boxing one against you.”
McGregor is scheduled to return to the UFC at UFC 329 on July 11, where he is set to face Max Holloway. The former two-division UFC champion has not won since defeating Donald Cerrone in January 2020 and will return after a five-year absence from competition. Holloway, meanwhile, is moving up two weight classes from featherweight to welterweight for the contest.
Terence Crawford Has Rejected Claims That Conor McGregor Offered Him $200 Million For Two Fights
Terence Crawford, however, rejected that version of events, saying discussions never reached that stage and that no financial offer was ever presented.
“That was a lie. It was cap. It wasn’t never no $200 million offer. They asked me would I do it, and I told them, ‘You ain’t about to be kicking on me, Conor.’ We were on FaceTime, and I did tell him that. But they didn’t say, ‘Hey, you got $200 million. You fight him in boxing and MMA.’ That was never the case. He’s making up numbers, in my head.”
While Crawford acknowledged speaking with Conor McGregor via FaceTime, he maintained the Irishman exaggerated what was discussed.
